NOFIA Hires New Marketing and Development Intern

The Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance is pleased to announce that Taura Roberts has been hired as Marketing and Development Intern.

Taura, a graduate from the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, brings to NOFIA a keen interest in sustainable agriculture and the environment in general.

While not coming from a farming background herself, Taura discovered that she had an interest in agriculture while studying Environmental Management at Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus. Her main area of interest is cash cropping, and some of her favourite topics at university were crop pest and disease management, as well as the science of weeds. In 2019 she was a summer student at the New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station, where she learned the hands-on skills involved in agricultural research. She now lives in the Earlton area in the Temiskaming District.

Taura is particularly interested in taking part in NOFIA’s on-farm research projects. One of her culminating assignments while at Ridgetown was to draft a proposal for an on-farm research trial, so she’s looking forward to applying her experience to real projects in northern Ontario.

Besides research projects, Taura will be coordinating NOFIA’s outreach and communications activities. She will also be supporting NOFIA in its ongoing role as the Northeastern Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association Regional Communications Coordinator and taking the lead on organizing the popular "A Day in Farm Country" farm tour event.
