Regional Communication Coordinator

NOFIA acts as the Regional Communication Coordinator (RCC) for the Northeastern Ontario (NEOSCIA) region of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA). The Northeastern region is composed of the Algoma, Cochrane, Parry Sound, Muskoka, Manitoulin, Temiskaming, Sudbury, and Nipissing district Soil and Crop Improvement Associations. 

This role involves drafting and compiling the northeastern Ontario related content for the quarterly OSCIA newsletter entitled The Innovator. Each edition of this newsletter is composed of articles, updates, and information that pertains to specific to agriculture in Ontario. 

The Innovator is available to all OSCIA members, visit the OSCIA website at this link to become a member. Prior to 2020, NOFIA compiled a regional newsletter entitled Breaking Ground. Archived copies of Breaking Ground can be found at this link. NOFIA has physical copies of Breaking Ground dating back to at least 2004, and could be made available for borrowing by contacting info@nofia-agri.com

Additionally, NOFIA supports events run by local Associations, such as crop tours and the Northern Ontario Ag Conference, as well as research projects. A recent research project was the AgTiv Mycorrhizal Inoculant Trial on Potato and Cereal Crops. The purpose of this project was to test the efficacy of an inoculation intended to promote beneficial interactions between field crops and fungi.
